Search Engine Tricks and Techniques

To begin let's look this great video from Google developer Matt Cutts. He describes the most common (and overlooked) tricks for using the Google search engine.

One method not mentioned is the use of the tilde (~) which broadens the search to similar concepts and words.

Google (and other search engines) also have the ability to answer questions. If you have a specific question, you will notice that not only can a search engine understand the question, but will offer suggestions from a list of previously asked questions.

Don't hesitate to ask complex questions, just as long as they are a single sentence. Search engines learn and evolve and virtually anything you can think of has already been entered into a search query.
